Proposed Specialised Land Court for Botswana
July 2026
The Government of Botswana has announced that proposals to establish a specialised Land Court are at an advanced stage. The proposed court is intended to improve the efficiency of resolving land-related disputes and address gaps identified within the current land dispute resolution framework.
Land disputes can involve complex issues relating to tribal land, property rights, transfers, development and decisions of land authorities. The proposed reforms may therefore have significant implications for individuals, businesses, property developers and other stakeholders involved in land matters.
As Botswana’s land dispute framework develops, affected parties should remain informed of legislative changes and seek appropriate legal advice when navigating land-related transactions or disputes.
